To HOT to do ANYTHING

We have been scorched

I bought this handy thermometer for the hubbys birthday
(I didn't realize how much I would like it too)
Here was yesterdays stats
I 'm not sure I agree with the humidity (53%)
It felt more like 90%

We are feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to decide whether to replace our AC unit
I'm not ready to part with the money (I never will be ready)
It still runs, it just runs non stop and never gets down to the thermostat temp
I was hoping with the temps only in the 90's today that it would run better but NO SUCH LUCK

Maybe we will just live in the pool this summer
We haven't really had much of a chance to use it
The boys have had ball games and I don't want them to wear themselves out swimming before a game
Speaking of ball games, both boys had games in this nasty heat

This boy amazes us more and more all the time
He has done a great job pitching and catching this year
Spencer's coach treated them to DQ after the game

We visited some where new this week,
I treated the boys to the Davenport slash pad on Wednesday

They played

and I enjoyed the view

The boys favorite part of the slash pad was this big hill

UNTIL Spencer ran down the hill, tripped and fell on the side walk (Ouch)

My hostas must like this heat
They have been blooming like crazy

  Does this bug look familiar?
I found it on the pool
It's kind of freaky looking
It must like the heat too

Busy Busy Weekend

Thank goodness the weekend is past and we are back to our routine

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE weekends but they are usually filled with tons of running
(and I don't mean exercise)

We rarely get a weekend to just RELAX

This past weekend,

Chip finished up his last Annual Training for the National Guard
(By this time next year, he will be RETIRED)

On Saturday, Parker had a birthday party to attend at the Aquatic Center
(Do you remember my post about summer babies?)
Check it out here
I had a blast putting this little bag together for the cutest strawberry blonde haired girl

What little girl wouldn't want her own beach bag, towel with her name on it, cool shades, popsicles and beach ball

Parker ready to swim

On Sunday we had a family reunion in Davenport and I can't believe I forgot my camera

Now  that we are back in the swing of things,
we have 2 more weeks of ball games and then tournaments
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself when I don't have to
throw a meal on the table,  hustle out the door and decide how to split my time between two games

I'm sure going to miss this
Parker sliding home

We are looking forward to the 4th of July next week
A day off work, parades, lemonade, funnel cakes, cookout at Mom's and fire works of course

And then we get to celebrate a  birthday at our house
Miss Amelia is turning ONE

I am also trying to plan a little vacation
The hubby informed me that he is going to take a week of vacation in August
I'm not sure where we are going yet; we will be happy just to go any where

Things are a little fruity around here

Do you know what's fantastic about summer?

Fruit

We are crazy about fruit so I try to have some around all the time

We even bake with all of our fruit
For the recipe - Check it out

I'm beginning to think we may have gotten carried away

Last week Parker was outside playing
and asked if he could get some markers to color on rocks
Look what my little guy made
I LOVE it!

Parker isn't the only one with fruit on the brain
I had some gifts to give and wanted to make something fun
"You're Berry Special"
(Strawberry soap, licorice, cupcake liners, a note pad, a coupon organizer
and some paper crafted strawberries with candies inside)

Check out the coupon organizer, I may have to make one of these for myself
and the strawberries were so fun to make
If you want to make some, check out the tutorial I followed here

I guess I would rather be fruity than nutty :)

Scavenger Hunt (Summer Bucket List)

I took some time off today to give the boys some much need attention

We took a scavenger hunt at the Discovery Center

I made a list of some things to find, we got some baggies and took off on our adventure

Here was our list -
Something fuzzy
2 different kids of leaves
Something round
Something smooth
Something rough
Something you think is beautiful
Something that makes noise
A chewed leaf
A pine cone
A stick
Something green
Something you think is a treasure

I didn't tell the boys where we were going right away
Especially since they were asking if we were going ice skating, going to Monkey Joes and etc.
I thought once I told them, they would complain and want to do something else
but they LOVED it

The boys were pretty happy with their finds

We got to check one more thing off of our Summer Bucket List

Weekend spent with family

My sister in-law and nieces came home Friday for a visit

I have been looking forward to this for weeks

The kids swam, slid on the slip and slide, made breakfast, played Barbies, went to a family reunion,
rode bikes, caught frogs, had Cheri Top, went to the Bettendorf Chidren's Museum,
had a very quick photo shoot, ate birthday cake and sang to Grandma and swam some more

Bettendorf Children's Museum
The kids swimming in Grandma's pool

Slip and Slide
Catching frogs

Holtz Family Reunion at Fuller Park

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was listening to this lovely lady
Isn't she beautiful! Just look at that smile!
She has been with my brother's family for 6 months now
I can't believe how much she is talking and how much she has learned

This is one of our quick photo shoot photos
These kids were totally exhausted but such good sports

I LOVE these kids to pieces!

We are on a roll (Summer Bucket List)

Summer vacation is off to a pretty good start
We are in our second week already
We've been busy doing some fun things on our summer bucket list

The boys are signed up for the reading program at the library
READING was on our list of to dos for the summer
Along with the reading program comes fun entertainment on Tuesday's
Our first week we saw animals from Blank Park Zoo

A opossum, a gecko, an owl and a hedge hog

This week at the library they saw a science demonstration
and
next week will be bubbles

Over the weekend, the boys and I walked to the Mark Twain Overlook
This wasn't on our list but it was fun
I can't believe we live less than a mile away and I haven't taken the boys up there

The boys took the hill
I took the steps
Any guesses who won?

Another item on our list was, feeding the ducks at Weed Park
but the ducks were the last thing the boys were interested in

They liked the fish, frogs and turtles

We are just getting started on our summer bucket list
There is lots more fun to come
